Biography

Andrea J. Turnbull, M.A., LMHC is an extension associate with the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research and has worked on the Residential Child Care Project since 2008. As a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) instructor, Ms. Turnbull has delivered training programs and provided technical assistance for human service organizations nationally and internationally. Since beginning her work in residential care in 1993, Ms. Turnbull has worked in a variety of settings including long-term residential, group homes and foster care. She has worked in the roles of direct care, supervisor, director and clinical coordinator. She currently helps coordinate the TCI program.

Currently involved in implementing a TCI Fidelity Review with agencies. The review tool is based on previous research conducted on the TCI-SAFE project. The use of the filelity tool, surveys and site visits help improve implementation of TCI within agencies. 

Participate in bi-monthly RCCP Research WedEx meetings with the research and extension team as we collaborate on research projects taking place within the Project. 

Currently Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in Florida. 

 

Provide Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) train-the-trainer courses both nationally and internationally. These courses are designed to help agencies provide crisis prevention and management within their programs. Beyond the core TCI curriculum, also provide training of TCI for Schools and TCI for Families.  

Extension activities also include providing technical assistance and assessment/planning for individual agencies. Frequently provide one on one suppport to individual trainers as they reach out to the Residential Child Care Project for guidance. 

As requested, I complete applications for various States requiring approval process for use of TCI within that State. This year the State of Connecticut granted us approval as an emergency safety intervention program that is permitted to be used within congregate care setting in the State.
