Minjae (MJ) Eum ’26
Human Biology, Health and Society

As a certified firefighter, MJ met her community’s most urgent needs head-on — while simultaneously revitalizing Cornell’s Diversity Admissions Ambassadors program and expanding its reach to nearly 75 underrepresented high schools. Before medical school, she will spend her gap year gaining clinical and research experience at the Stanford School of Medicine.

About the award

This award is presented to a graduating senior for outstanding student leadership, extraordinary service to the College, and demonstrated potential as an alumni leader. The recipient of this award serves as an example for their peers and all alumni by demonstrating service, loyalty, commitment to the College, the Alumni Association, and their community. Strong candidates are those who:

  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership skills
  • Embrace the mission and values of the College in both academic and extracurricular activities
  • Has a special enthusiasm for, and extraordinary interest in being an ambassador for the college
  • Understands "the big picture" of the college and university community that extends out to its alumni
  • Has a working knowledge of alumni engagement and has participated in alumni outreach
  • Has taken an active role in support of alumni/student connections

The nomination cycle for the Outstanding Senior Award is Dec. 1-Jan. 15 of every year.

Nominations by faculty/staff must be submitted to the Human Ecology Alumni Affairs and Development office by 5 pm on Jan. 15 to be considered. Once the nomination forms are received, the nominated students will be contacted by the Human Ecology Alumni Affairs and Development office and will be asked to provide additional information.

Presentation will be made at the Senior Celebration, which takes place in April. It is preferred that the recipient attend this ceremony in person to receive this award. The awardee will receive a monetary award of $500, and their accomplishments will be showcased on our website and in a poster that will be displayed in the hall near the dean’s office in MVR Hall.
