Q: Who is eligible to minor in D+EA?

A: All Cornell undergraduate students except D+EA majors.

Q: How do I apply for the D+EA Minor?

A: Start by taking the 3 core courses required for the D+EA minor.  Submit Intention to Minor in D+EA form after successfully completing the 3 core courses requirement. Submit the form to deaundergrad@cornell.edu

Q: How do i apply for the D+EA Minor in Design Innovation & Strategy?

A: Start by taking the two core courses required for the Design Strategy Minor. Submit Intention to Minor in Design Innovation & Strategy form after successfully completing the two core courses requirement. Submit the form to deaundergrad@cornell.edu.

Q: What are the requirements?

A: D+EA Minor: Complete a minimum of 15 credits within D+EA, including three required core courses and two thematics.  See Application to Graduate with a Minor in D+EA for detailed course requirements. Students must earn a B- or better in all courses.

Design Innovation & Strategy Minor: Complete a minimum of 17 credits within D+EA, including two required core courses and one core studio course. See Application to Graduate with a Minor in Design Innovation & Strategy for detailed course requirements. Students must earn a B- or better in all courses.

Q: What D+EA courses count for the required core and the electives?

Q: Three categories of electives are designated. Must I complete all 6 electives in one thematic area?

A: No. Students may choose to specialize in one area or may sample from all three areas. The only requirement is to successfully complete all qualifying credits of D+EA electives.

Q: If I complete all required core courses, may I apply another core course toward the 6 elective credits?

A: No. This requirement is in place to encourage students to take upper-level courses and thereby gain expertise within the field.

Q: May I substitute another D+EA course for the core courses requirement?

A: No. 

Q: May I take courses S/U?

A: Courses offered only as S/U are accepted, but the total must not exceed 3 S/U credits toward the 15 credit requirement of the minor. Courses that provide a choice of grade or S/U must be taken for a grade.

Q: May I apply credits for classes taken abroad to the D+EA Minor?

A: No. All courses completed and designated for the D+EA minors must be taken on the Cornell campus.

Q: May I count a course which is cross-listed with D+EA and taught by a D+EA instructor, even if I complete the non-D+EA prefix version?

A: Yes.

Q: May I apply independent study and teaching assistantship courses (4000, 4010, 4020, 4030) toward my 6 elective credits?

A: No.

Q: What shall I do if there are many prerequisites for a specific course, which I am unable to complete prior to enrollment?

A: Contact the instructor, explain the situation and ask permission to enroll in the course. Permission depends on the particular course and is entirely at the discretion of the instructor.

Q: A course I want to take is not offered this year. Will it be offered next year?

A: Some courses may not be offered annually due to sabbatical leave and other departmental circumstances. Refer to Cornell’s online Courses of Study for current information about course offerings and availability.

Q: How will the D+EA Minor appear on my transcript? 

A: During your final semester, submit a completed copy of the Application to Graduate with a Minor in D+EA to D+EA’s Main Office by March 15 or October 15. The deadline March 15 is for May Graduates or October 15 for December Graduates.  After verification by D+EA that all requirements for the minor were completed, D+EA will update the online system which the student’s college registrar and the final transcript will indicate that a D+EA Minor was earned.

Q: How will the D+EA Minor in Design Innovation & strategy Appear on my Transcript?

A: During your final semester, submit a completed copy of the Application to Graduate with a Minor in Design Innovation & Strategy to D+EA's Main Office by March 15 or October 15.
