Project Title: Doctoral Dissertation Research: Detained Potential—Associative Stigma as a Core Mechanism Behind Educational Inequality for Children of Incarcerated Parents

McCauley states, “The current project will develop the literature on educational inequality by considering how parental incarceration perpetuates inequality through differential teacher expectations and treatment. Additionally, this project will provide a crucial next step in the literature examining the collateral consequences of incarceration by providing a causal test of a key mechanism that is likely behind the educational detainment of the children of incarcerated parents and illuminating pathways for this effect.”
