Through an agreement with the Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement (GRAAM), you have an opportunity to live, study and work in Mysore, India for one semester while earning credit toward your MPA. This program focuses specifically on development management and would be ideal for those Fellows who are concentrating their studies in either international development or public and nonprofit management.
GRAAM offers a Master of Development Management (MDM) program accredited by the University of Mysore at the Vivekananda Institute of Leadership Development (VLEAD) in Mysore City, India. This program offers a broad range of coursework designed to prepare students for top leadership and management roles in developing organizations. As a CIPA Fellow, you will take a minimum of two courses through the MDM program and engage in an 8 to 10 week internship, facilitated by GRAAM. GRAAM’s project portfolio includes work in the areas of education, health, poverty alleviation, and training/research/advisory/consulting services.
Official transcripts of your coursework will be sent directly to CIPA at the end of the semester, but will not appear on your Cornell transcript. You will, however, receive credit for your internship through HE 6050: Planning Externships, a Cornell course overseen by CIPA staff and offered through the College of Human Ecology. The grade for HE 6050 will appear on your Cornell transcript and will be factored into your GPA at Cornell.
MPA students participating in the India program pay tuition to Cornell; your participation in this program will not have an effect on any financial aid award you might have from CIPA. You will be exempt from tuition, enrollment and application fees at GRAAM. GRAAM will provide you with transportation from and to Bangalore Airport, housing in GRAAM’s residential facility (or suitable alternative accommodations if the residential facility is full), meals, and professional instruction.
VISA Requirement: Please note that you are responsible for meeting country visa requirements for entry into the program, obtaining your own visas and completing required immigration formalities, and for obtaining the travel and other related documents needed to pursue studies through GRAAM.
