About the University

VIA is the largest university college in Denmark and currently has 17,000 students at 8 different campuses. VIA's 8 campuses are located in the Central Denmark Region and offer a wide range of educational programmes in areas such as health, social education, technology, trade, design, business and animation. Twenty research centres in addition to a close cooperation with professional practices ensures that continuous program development is tied to the latest knowledge within the field.

VIA Business, Technology and Creative Industries, a school within VIA University College, is the largest design and business academy in Scandinavia within the furniture, fashion and lifestyle sectors. It is located at the Herning Campus which has more than 1,100 students. Programs are developed and carried out in close collaboration with companies and organizations in related fields. Innovation and interdisciplinary projects are a definite part of the curriculum, ensuring that graduates obtain both the necessary skills as well as the competence to handle a global world. The ability to work across borders and professions is crucial.

About the Exchange Program

Undergraduate students enrolled in FSAD or DEA may spend one semester studying at VIA Business, Technology and Creative Industries in Denmark. As an exchange student you may enroll in one of the full degree programmes that are taught in English. You will be joining a class consisting of both international and Danish students. You may choose an area of specialization in either their Design or Business programme.

Herning is situated in the mid-west of Jutland. With approximately 50,000 inhabitants, it is the 11th largest urban area in Denmark. The city is known for its textile-weaving industry. Herning is home to Messecenter Herning, the largest exhibition center in Scandinavia, which gives the town a reputation for its many trade fairs. Carl-Henning Pedersen and Else Alfelt's Museum of Art (also known as Herning Art Museum) is one of the major attractions. The city also hosts three striking buildings designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, known worldwide for his design of the Sydney Opera House in Australia. The campus is a center of design in the bucolic countryside.

VIA Business, Technology and Creative Industries has a close relationship to companies within the industry, and it has for years educated the manpower that international lifestyle companies need. The school offers education programmes in all areas of production, whether it is design, management, or sales. DEA & FSAD Majors may enroll in one of 5 programmes taught in English.

Students at VIA Design in Herning have various opportunities for accommodation.

The Birk College Students' Village consists of about 250 quality apartments of various sizes and at affordable prices, only a few minutes' walk from campus. Vibeke and Mads Eg Damgaards Kollegium is another residence hall with 40 rooms, situated in Birk Centerpark.

Additionally, a number of private landlords rent furnished and unfurnished rooms and apartments to students, all within short walking, biking, bus or train distance.
