2013

  • 4/8/13: Yin He officially becomes Dr. He. Congratulations!

  • 4/2/13: Liu’s paper on the Phenformin effect on UPR signaling is accepted by J Biol Chem, initially submitted on 2/19/13 and revised on 3/31/13. Congratulations!

  • 4/1/13: Erica Shu, a Junior, receives the Human Ecology Summer Research award. Congratulations!

  • 1/1/13: Happy the Year of Water Snake! What a year 2012 we had! May all the efforts to be rewarded in 2013 and Ithaca’s winter remains as tolerable as 2012!

2012

  • 11/12/12: Yin’s paper accepted in Dev Cell, initially submitted on 5/22/12, revised on 9/19/12 and 10/23/12, and accepted 11/12/12. This manuscript is the cumulative result of over two years of collaborations among four groups (Yates at Scripps, Kemphues at Cornell and Adelstein at NHLBI). Congratulations! [story]

  • 10/29/12: Dr. Guojun Shi joined us from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is interested in the physiological role of ER homeostasis. Welcome.

  • 7/11/12: Ling’s grant was awarded by JDRF. This goal of this one-year grant is for "Pioneering Studies on Beta Cell Regeneration, Survival and Beta Cell Stress Biomarkers".

  • 5/29/12: Yewei’s paper accepted in JBC, initially submitted on 4/12/12 and revised on 5/16/12.

  • 4/23/12: Hana Kim, a first year graduate student from the field of Immunology, joins the lab. She obtained her B.S and M.S. in The California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Welcome, Hana!

  • 4/6/12: Robert Guber was awarded summer fellowship from Human Ecology.

  • 4/2/12: Ling was awarded the Lehman Fund from the Office of the Vice Provost for International Relations, Cornell University.

  • 3/14/12: Ling's research on diabetes and obesity was featured in the Cornell Daily Sun. Read the [story].

  • 3/6/12: Yewei's JBC paper accepted, initially submitted on 2/5/12, revised on 2/29/12, and appeared online on 3/6/12. Chronicle [story]

  • 2/7/12: Iris' paper accepted in Diabetes, initially submitted on 10/3/11, revised on 1/17/12, and appeared online on 3/13/12.

2011

  • 12/16/11: Ling is awarded the Career Development Award from ADA. President Skorton sends his letter. Congratulations! [story | flyer]

  • 12/5/11: Liu is awarded the predoctoral fellowship from American Heart Association with an impressive 1.2 score and 4.3 percentile. Congratulations!

  • 8/4/11: Iris was awarded the HHMI International Research Fellow. Congratulations! Read the public announcements [HHMI and Cornell]

  • 8/1/11: Celebrate lab's 4th anniversary!

  • 7/13/11: Zhen's paper on IRE1a activation is accepted in JBC (6/19/11 submitted and 7/7/11 revised) and appeared online immediately. The whole process took 3 weeks. The fastest ever for the lab.

  • 7/6/11: Xiao-Qing Li (rising Junior) was selected as the Hunter R. Rawlings III Presidential Research Scholar. Congratulations!

  • 6/15/11: Ling's R21 grant got a priority score of 11.

  • 6/10/11: Iris is notified about the status of her application for the HHMI International Research Fellow. Public announcement will be made at the end of July by HHMI.

  • 6/2/11: Ling is invited to the IPOD study section for the second time in a row.

  • 5/25/11: Sheng leaves the lab for an Associate Professor position in Jiangsu University, China. We wish him well.

  • 5/18/11: Sheng's paper on MDSC in obesity is accepted in JBC (3/11/11 submitted and 5/12/11 revised) and appeared online immediately.

  • 4/21/11: Iris passed her A-exam. Congratulations!

  • 4/11/11: Ling is awarded the Bio-Serv Award from American Society for Nutrition. Congratulations!

2010

  • 12/6/2010: We received a seed grant from Cornell CVG to fund our study on the role of UPR in obesity/diabetes.

  • 10/28/2010: Iris was chosen by Cornell to compete for the HHMI International Student Research Fellowship (ISRF). Congratulations and wish her the best of luck!

  • 7/29/2010: Liu passed her A-exam. Congratulations!

  • 6/21/2010: Liu's paper on "Quantitating physiological UPR" is accepted in PLoS ONE. The paper was initially submitted on 5/16/2010 and revised on 6/12/2010.

  • 4/22/2010: Hui's paper on "SUMOylation of XBP1s" is accepted in Biochem. J. The paper was initially submitted on 2/2/2010 and revised on 4/2/2010. The paper is immediately online.

  • 3/9/2010: Iris Sun, the first year BMCB student, have decided to join the lab and will be here in June.

2009

  • 11/17/2009: Dr. Yewei Ji joins the lab.

  • 11/13/2009: Yin passed her A-exam (see picture below). Congratulations on her job well-done!

  • 10/29/2009: Haibo received the CVG Scholars Award. Congratulations!

  • 8/15/2009: Yin received the G&D training grant award. Congratulations!

  • 8/8/2009: Yewei Ji, Ph.D., accepts the offer to join the lab as a postdoctoral associate in October. Dr. Ji is an expert in NK and NKT cells.

  • 8/7/2009: Zhen (Jen) Xue, the first-year Nutrition graduate student, joins the lab.

  • 6/2/2009: Our Cell Metabolism paper comes out and Cornell Chronicle reports on the link between ER and fat cell formation [link].

  • 6/1/2009: Liu Yang, a BMCB graduate student, joins the lab.

  • 4/20/2009: Haibo and Yin's paper on adipogenesis, the first for the lab, is accepted in Cell Metabolism. The paper was initially submitted on 12/18/2008 and revised on 4/2/2009. The official letter came in on 4/28/2009 and the paper will be out in June issue.

  • 2/3/2009: Sheng Xia joins the lab.

  • 1/26/2009: Yin and Haibo present their poster in the NIH workshop at Bethesda (see pic below).

  • 1/15/2009: Lab settles into its new home.

  • 1/10/2009: Lab gets its first 5-year NIH R01 funding.

2008

  • 8/7/2008: Sheng Xia, Ph.D., an Associate Professor from Jiangsu University (China) accepted the offer to join the lab in December 2008. Dr. Xia recently got his Ph.D. in Dr. Xuetao Cao's laboratory at Zhenjiang University with strong publications in Blood and Molecular Immunology.

  • 6/2/2008: Yin He, the first-year G&D graduate student, joins the lab.

  • 3/28/2008: Congratulations to Anna Zenno! She is awarded the Human Ecology Summer Research Award to support her summer research in the lab. And she has been selected as a Hughes Scholar this summer.

  • 2/18/2008: Cindy Wang joins the lab.

  • 10/19/2007: Radiation application approved [permit #07-06]

  • 10/11-13/2007: First miniprep and Maxiprep.

  • 10/8/2007: Haibo joins the lab.

  • 8/26/2007: Cornell Sophomore Anna Zenno joins the lab.

  • 8/2/2007: The lab officially opens its business.

  • 6/29/2007: The long-awaited animal protocol #2007-0051 was approved! It covers the mouse work in the laboratory through 6/29/2010.

  • 6/28/2007: Hui Chen, Ph.D., accepted offer to join the lab on 8/15/2007.

  • 6/1/2007: Haibo Sha accepted offer to join the lab sometime in September. Haibo recently obtained his Ph.D. degree from Animal Model Research Center, Nanjing University, China.
