Nutritional Sciences Academic Overview


Professor Pinstrup-Andersen and studentsThe Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS) is one of the world's premier academic programs devoted to the study of human nutrition.  The program encourages students to critically interpret research from the laboratory and the field and to translate new knowledge for the improvement of global public health, inform government policy, and improve wellness in people's everyday lives.




Areas of specialization include:

  • The role of diet in reducing the risk of chronic disease and obesity.

  • Malnutrition and health issues in developing countries.

  • Biochemical underpinnings of nutrition at the cellular level.

MAJORS: Nutritional Sciences (NS); Human Biology, Health and Society (HBHS); and Biology with Nutrition Concentration.

MINORS AND OTHER PROGRAMS: Dietetic Concentration; Applied Exercise Science; Nutrition and Health; and Global Health.
