Undergraduate Honors Program

Research in fiber science or apparel design

Students, under the direction of an FSAD faculty member, will undertake basic or applied research in fiber science or apparel design leading to a thesis or a combination of creative work and a thesis.

Requirements for Students
GPA minimum of 3.3 is required to apply and remain in good standing during the course of honors research; other courses may be required by the thesis professor.

Students must sign up by the last day of pre-registration in Fall semester of Junior year by filling out the honors application form. The form includes an abstract of the proposed research and approval by the major professor (an FSAD faculty member). A second faculty member, from any department in the university, and the FSAD faculty honors representative must also sign the application and will complete the makeup of the three person honors committee for the student.

The honors student must sign up for a minimum of two semesters (8 credits) of FSAD 499 in senior year.

The honors student will prepare a thesis, based on research. The thesis will include a research statement, background, approach, results (which could be a description of a creative work), and discussion. The student may also produce creative work.

When the thesis has been approved by the committee, the student will have an open presentation of work, either a seminar or an exhibition, and an oral defense with the committee.
