This evaluation of a prevention program is a collaboration with Dr. David Olds of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center as well as researchers at the University of Rochester School of Nursing. It entails a long-term evaluation of a randomized clinical trial that began in the late 1970s. It involved providing high-risk mothers, having their first child, with supportive and educational services delivered by registered nurses in the parent’s home. This research project has been funded by theNational Institute of Mental Health, the Children’s Bureau (ACF) and other foundation and college sources. Results from the project have appeared in top journals (e.g. Journal of the American Medical Association) and have influenced state and national policies regarding services to new parents.
