Biographical Statement:
Four years ago I decided to attend Cornell University for its academic excellence, but I lacked direction. After my first semester, I found three reasons to declare my major in Nutritional Science. First, I maintained an interest in studying human biological chemistry. Second, the field stands at the forefront of preventative medicine?an underdeveloped area which I firmly believe in. Third, I wanted to graduate with a dependable degree; should an event prevent my continuing an education beyond Cornell, I could still rely on my undergraduate degree for establishing a rewarding career.

I created an educational focus within my major by entering the Didactic Program in Dietetics. I see it as a practical and worthy application of a Nutritional Science degree. Acquiring the Registered Dietitian (R.D.) credential, and its accompanying knowledge, is a valuable asset by any standards.

My interest in conducting research let me to the Honors Research Program. After taking NS 398?Research in Human Nutrition and Health, I joined Dr. Robert Parkers research team in the spring and immediately began my own project ? characterization and comparison of the accumulation of vitamin E analogs (tocopherols and tocotrienols) by human liver (HepG2/C3A) and rat mast cell types (RBL-2H3).

Immediately after graduation I intend to complete a dietetic internship, preferably with NewYork? Presbyterian, and take the Registration Examination of the Commission on Dietetic Registration to become a Registered Dietitian. My hearts interest lies in pursing a career in human-related research. I am contemplating obtaining a PhD in Genetics, Nutritional Science, or a Pharm D/PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
