Biographical Statement:
Patricia Baron Pollak has been a member of the Cornell faculty since 1981. Her work focusses on how public policies and  community planning decisions in particular affect the  well-being of community residents. Her research and outreach has been awarded grant funding from sources including the New York State Office for the Aging, the New York State Division of housing and Community Renewal, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (AoA), the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and AARP. She has served as Chair of the American Planning Association-Division of Housing and Community Development, Chair of the New York State Task Force on Housing for the Elderly, Chair of the the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning-Fannie Mae Foundation Housing and Community Development Conference Program Track, a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the American Planning Association, President of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning-Faculty Women's Interest Group and Chair of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning Institutional Governance Committee. She has served two terms as an elected officer (secretary) of the national professional organization-the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning (ACSP).  Dr. Pollak was the Principal Investigator and Director of the Cornell-Ithaca Partnership, Cornell University's Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC), supported with grant funds from U.S. HUD and contributed to by Cornell campus and Ithaca community resources. She is nationally known for her research and publications on residential zoning, community-based housing options for older people, and indicators of liveable communities.

Current Extension Activities:
Demonstration of application of Community Indicators methodology in a CNY community.

Public speaking and training about Quality-of-Life for community-based older americans.

Developing Older New Yorkers Community Livability Program with NYS Office for the Aging.

Development of Main Street Vitality project, demonstration program with Homer Business Association, Cortland County Industrial Development Agency and Cortland Business Development Corporation.
