Biographical Statement:
I chose the College of Human Ecology because it has a focus in improving the human condition through processes such as the implementation and evaluation of government policies. By being able to take classes with faculty members who are currently involved in research I knew that I would be able to discuss their research with them and learn how important discoveries or new insights are made from people who are attempting to make such discoveries themselves.

I chose my major because while in high school I became interested in how policy decisions that effect peoples lives are developed and implemented. I was active in Model United Nations and became intrigued by the process of countries presenting their resolutions for discussion. By participating in Model United Nations and other such activities I developed an interest in how policy decisions are made. I wanted to gain a better understanding of why policy makers decide to implement certain policies over others.

I have been impressed by the faculty and staffs willingness to encourage students to explore whichever field interests them. Students are not limited in what classes they can enroll in while in the college. While students choose a major, the classes that they take do not revolve solely around their major. Students are encouraged to take classes throughout Human Ecology and across Cornell to make sure that they receive a well-rounded education.
