Biographical Statement:
Human Ecology focuses on the applications of class concepts so I always felt like I had some direction in my studies. The diverse majors within the College have shown me the interconnectedness between different disciplines and have taught me to view issues from a holistic perspective.

I was not sure exactly what I wanted to do after college, but I felt like PAM would provide me with exposure and skills that would be helpful for whatever direction I chose. I liked the focus on current issues that are central to the PAM curriculum, as well as the breadth of courses covered in the core curriculum. I felt there were enough requirements to ensure I gained broad exposure, but also enough flexibility to choose classes beyond my major.

Living in several countries, I have been exposed to several health care systems and made aware of the various challenges. I wanted to better understand the current debates in the healthcare industry and chose several health related classes based on this interest. I also spoke with several professors about my interest in improving peoples health through lifestyle and they helped me better articulate my focus on health from a sociological perspective. In addition to my course selections, I had internship experiences in several settings that supported my interest in health.

I started college knowing that I wanted to do something to help the world. The College of Human Ecology has helped me to narrow my focus to specific target areas and has taught me the many ways that change can occur in society.

I leave Human Ecology with a more holistic view of the world and an appreciation for how different industries and sectors operate in our society. Upon graduation, I will be working for a sales and marketing consulting company as a research associate. I hope to eventually work internationally to help businesses use their core competencies to affect positive social change. Specifically, I am interested in how businesses can impact peoples lifestyle choices.
