Biographical Statement: I would like to someday go into public service and I saw Policy Analysis and Management (PAM) as an excellent opportunity to learn the intricacies of the policy making process. Human Ecology presented me with an unrivaled opportunity to obtain an Ivy League education in a subject about which I was very passionate.
I created focus within my major by using my classes to the best of my ability to study and analyze environmental policy. The Honors Program has been of significant help as it enabled me to conduct my thesis on the effects of state legislation on the hybrid electric vehicle market.
The College of Human Ecology has helped my interests evolve by exposing me to a broad curriculum that intertwines economics, statistics, and research into the policy making process. The professors have also been very encouraging of my academic and personal growth.
The College of Human Ecology has helped me develop a more balanced perspective of the world that takes into account a myriad of factors. I attribute this to a more astute and critical lens of Cost-Benefit Analyses derived from my core PAM classes. Additionally, I greatly appreciate the knowledge gained from the Social/Family Welfare concentration about the lives of the less privileged populations of American society, as it cannot be found in a standard textbook.
After graduation I plan to go to law school and study environmental law or work on environmental or energy policies with the government. I hope to one day hold public office or a position of influence where I can affect our nations environmental and energy policy. As global climate change and our impact on the environment increases every day, I sincerely hope to create policies which will address and alleviate the causes of environmental degradation. |
