Professor Christine Olson, Nutritional Sciences, studies
She seeks to identify factors that contribute to the development of obesity in women during the child-bearing years and develop interventions to address the factors. Professor Olson is working with community-based professionals to develop environmental interventions to prevent excessive weight gain in pregnancy and promote appropriate weight gain in infants in the first 6 months of life. Also, she is attempting to uncover explanations for the relationship between poverty and obesity among low-income women with children living in rural New York State, focusing on early life experiences, eating patterns, and physical activity. Current funding includes awards from the U.S. Department of Agriculture NRI Integrated Grant Program of the CSREES and a Hatch Multi-state Project, and the National Institutes of Health. |
