Intergenerational Communication, Healthy Families and Communities

The three objectives of this study are to:

  • Assess adult-youth communication/connectedness, factual knowledge, worry levels, and risk/protective behaviors in the context of promoting reproductive health and caution in the use of alcohol and other drugs.
  • Enhance participants’ knowledge and skills, reduce risky behaviors and unfounded worries, and promote positive health practices and decision-making. We will evaluate the effects of the education program on adult-teen connectedness, communication, factual knowledge, worry levels, and risk/protective behaviors with respondents who are adolescents, parents/parent figures, and service providers.
  • Implement and evaluate a participatory research method that is based on an empowerment model which engages communities in supporting the research process.
