PAM Minor

Starting Fall 2009, the Department of Policy Analysis and Management offers a minor open to all Cornell undergraduate students.

The minor requires a minimum of 15 credit hours of work within PAM.  There can be no substitution for the required courses for the minor.

Course Requirements

In order to earn a minor in PAM, a student must complete the following requirements:

  1. Complete PAM 2300 - Introduction to Policy Analysis.
  2. Complete 3 courses in PAM at the 3000 or 4000 level (PAM Special Studies classes are not permitted to be used to count towards a PAM minor).
  3. Complete a minimum of 15 credits of PAM course work.  Note that most of the PAM 3000 and 4000 level courses require prerequisites; the additional credit requirements may be used to satisfy prerequisites.

Admission Requirements

  1. Students complete the Intention to Minor in PAM form to be given preference for admission to PAM courses that are oversubscribed.  Forms are available from the Undergraduate Coordinator in MVR 122.
  2. Submit the form any time after you have completed as least one of the courses required for the minor.  Keep a copy of the form for reference.  Note that to receive any consideration or priority in PAM course enrollment, a form must have been submitted prior to the semester in which enrollment is desired.  Formally declaring intent to minor in PAM does not guarantee that a student will be able to take a given PAM course in a given semester.
  3. Plan a course of study to complete minor requirements.  Keeping track of courses required and completed toward the minor is the student’s responsibility; students will not be assigned a PAM advisor.  Only PAM courses may be used to satisfy the requirements of the minor.
  4. Students must earn a grade of B- or better in each course required by the minor.  S/U will not be accepted.
  5. During the semester in which you are planning to graduate, submit a copy of the Application to Graduate with a Minor in Policy Analysis and Management form, and an unofficial copy of your transcript to room 122 MVR Hall.  After it has been verified that you have completed all of the requirements for the minor, your college registrar will be notified, and your final transcript will indicate that you earned a minor in Policy Analysis and Management.

Questions should be addressed to Larissa Hensley, undergraduate coordinator, or Tom Evans, Director of Undergraduate Studies.
