Stalking and Other Forms of Intrusive Contact

Sharing Your Experiences

As part of our ongoing effort to understand the experiences of those involved in stalking and other forms of intrusive contact, we invite you to send us descriptions of your experiences. We are interested in the experiences of both those who have been the target of stalking or other forms of intrusive contact and those who have initiated intrusive contact.

To be the most helpful to us, we hope that you will include the following information:

  • your age now and at the time that the romantic or dating relationship began
  • the types of intrusive contact that were involved
  • how long the intrusive contact lasted
  • your beliefs about why the intrusive contact began (those who initiated intrusive contact may be best able to provide this information)
  • your beliefs about why the intrusive contact ended, if it has

In addition, since we are eager to develop ways of helping those involved in intrusive contact, it would be helpful if you told us:

Whether you told friends or family members about the intrusive contact

  • whether you received support from them or any advice on how to handle the intrusive contact
  • which kinds of support or advice were helpful to you, and which types were not

Whether you talked with a teacher, counselor, advisor, or therapist about the intrusive contact

  • what they advised you to do about the intrusive contact
  • which types of advice were helpful and which were not

Whether you contacted the police or other law-enforcement professionals about the intrusive contact

  • what they advised you to do about the intrusive contact
  • which types of advice were helpful and which were not

Whether you obtained a restraining order from a court, and whether this was helpful.

If you did not to tell anyone about the intrusive contact, that would be helpful for us to know also.

We know that we are asking for a lot of information. Feel free to send us as much or as little information as you would like. If you prefer to answer just a few questions, that is fine, as any information you can send will be helpful to us. Send information to our project’s e-mail address: intrusive-contact@cornell.edu

The information that you send us will not be posted on our website. However, we will use your experiences to improve our website and other interventions that we have available. We will remove your name and email address from your message before using any of the information, so no one will be able to identify it as coming from you.

Unfortunately, we are not able to give advice about individual cases of intrusive contact.

Thanks very much.
