Human Subjects Training

All students involved in research projects are required to take the UCHS training through the Human Subjects Compliance online training program.
To complete your UCHS training you need to follow these steps:
1. Log onto the UCHS training website http://www.irb.cornell.edu/training/menu_soc.html and complete the online training.
2. Once you have successfully completed the training, print a copy of your results and make sure to email your project leader as well so that we can keep a record on file.

Participant Recruitment

If you are a parent, teacher, or student and are interested in learning more about recruitment at your school, please call the lab at 607-254-1172.

Prospective Lab Members

Are you interested in working with children? Are you interested in how memory works?
Research assistants for our study funded by the National Science Foundation investigate developmental trends in memory by visiting local schools and administering specialized tests of memory to children.

Are you interested in working with teenagers? Are you interested in risky decision making and sexual behavior in teens?
Lab members serving as Peer Health Educators teach a CDC-approved curriculum (or a theoretically modified variant) to local teenagers. These curricula focus on reducing the risk of sexual activity by teaching adolescents a variety of skills and alternative ways to think about risks with potentially life altering consequences.

Are you interested in how physicians make medical decisions?
Lab members working on our medical decision making project work with data collected about physician triage decisions for patients presenting with chest pain. Within each project, distinct roles are available, and new positions will become available as future projects begin. In addition, if you have any specialized skills (e.g., advanced computer programming knowledge), we may have a spot for you as well. Your interests and talents are valued and will help determine your role in the lab.

Here are a few tips to get you started once you have been accepted into the lab.

1.You must complete IRB training. This allows you to work with human subjects. The training is available online at http://www.irb.cornell.edu/training/menu_soc.html. Be sure to print out your certificate of completion.

2. Read the grant proposal for each of our current studies. Decide which one you are most interested in.
