Departments and Majors

 
 

The College of Human Ecology curriculum combines study in the liberal arts with courses in the physical, social, and behavioral sciences to create practical, career-oriented majors. All majors lead to a Bachelor of Science degree. For detailed information about the departments, visit the sites listed below.

  • B&S: investigates the complex relationships of philosophy, ethics, law, and health through a personalized roster of coursework in biology, humanities, and the social sciences. This major is an inter-college program in association with the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Each of the three programs is tailored to the mission of the college in which it is offered.
  • DEA: incorporates social and natural sciences to solve real-life design problems in Interior Design, Facility Planning & Management, and Human Factors/Ergonomics.
  • DNS: investigates the complex relationships between nutrition, health, and disease prevention from subjects as minute as a single cell to problems as broad as world hunger.
  • HBHS: integrates behavioral and biomedical perspectives as it examines human health issues in the context of a nutrition-based curriculum based on biology, chemistry, and the social sciences.
  • HD: studies sociological, psychological, and biological perspectives on development from conception through the life course.
  • PAM: explores public policy through economics, government, finance, sociology, ethics, statistics, and psychology. Majors choose a distinct concentration in family, health, or consumer policy.
  • FSAD : offers concentrations in Apparel Design, Apparel/Textile Management, and Fiber Science in applications ranging from fashion to medical technologies, and including business and materials engineering.
