When can I meet with an advisor? During Human Ecology Orientation all new students will meet with their departments for academic orientation and advising. You'll get important guidance about course scheduling and general academic planning and advising. Your major department will assign a faculty advisor; in the meantime, you will meet the Director of Undergraduate Study; use him or her as your first advising resource. When will I know my schedule? You will develop your schedule during orientation. You will use your transfer credit evaluation to determine which requirements you have completed. During orientation you will meet with your department's faculty to get help creating your spring schedule. How many courses should I take? All students must be enrolled in at least 12 academic credits (Phys Ed doesn't count) at all times. In general, that means that you can expect to take 4 or 5 courses each semester. Most students average 15 credits per semester in order to complete 120 credits over 4 years. If you have a problem or concern about the course load, please make an appointment to talk with a counselor. Yes! It's an important time to gather information about your major, requirements, and the policies that govern your academic life at Cornell. You'll meet other students and faculty in your major and get to know your way around the College of Human Ecology.
How can I prepare to apply to medical school?
How can I prepare to apply to law school? What career services are offered? How can I get assistance adjusting to Cornell's academic expectations? What services are available for students with disabilities? Who can I talk to about a personal issue? There are lots of resources. Your RA and other residence hall staff are here to help. College counselors in 172 MVR are waiting to meet and talk with Human Ecology students, and therapists at Gannett Health Center are available as well. All you need to do is take the first step of asking for help! |
