Student Development“You are not here to be made; you are here to make yourselves. You are not here to hang upon a university; you are here to help build a university." - Andrew Dickson White -- teacher, scholar and co-founder and first president of Cornell University With this in mind, college and university offices work closely with you to help you realize your dreams and potential. Counseling and Advising We know that managing all of the opportunities at Cornell University and through Human Ecology might seem overwhelming. The College of Human Ecology has a network of counselors and advisors in place to help students navigate their way through their options to find a path that suits their academic and personal goals. Each student also has at least two mentors: a college counselor and a faculty advisor. College counselors assist students as they navigate curriculum requirements and pursue postgraduate opportunities, while faculty advisers provide guidance for students narrowing their intellectual interests, looking for research opportunities, and networking in their academic fields. A study abroad counselor maintains materials on programs around the world and supplies guidance through the application process. Incoming students are able to meet with college counselors and Directors of Undergraduate Study during orientation week and with faculty advisors throughout the semester as needed. Student Organizations One of the ways students begin to engage themselves and become involved in the College of Human Ecology is through one of the many college based organizations. Participation in these organizations enables students to foster a deeper connection to the college and also provides opportunities to further develop leadership skills. |
