Current Research Activities:
My work focuses on sexual orientation: how it is organized, how it develops, and how it affects a person’s life. In one study I used home videos to examine visual and audio signals of childhood gender nonconformity and how they relate to adult sexual orientation. I also investigate the social impact of these signals. In another line of research I studied the association of sexual orientation with subjective and physiological sexual arousal to illuminate sex differences in the nature of sexual orientation. I am currently working on a project that will help understanding sexual attraction patterns of both children and adults. My studies have broader relevance for understanding how people perceive themselves and others, as well as consequences of these perceptions, and for the development of differences between and within the sexes.
